Catarina

Catarina is a small town in the Masaya department of the Pacific basin of Nicaragua. It is one of the Pueblos Blancos, a series of Masaya towns characterized by Spanish-style architecture in their centers. Catarina is at the heart of Nicaragua artisan culture, especially wood-work, ceramics and metalwork. It is also a center of plant husbandry, with flower nurseries throughout the city. ATRAVES has worked with two schools in Catarina, Instituto Humberto Pavón Fonseca, and Preescolar Ursula. Volunteers have assisted with mathematics, computer and English education.
