Leticia Rojas, Executive Director, ATRAVES Nicaragua
Leticia Rojas is a co-founder of ATRAVES, and Executive Director and board President of ATRAVES Nicaragua. Originally from Carazo, she has spent her entire career in community development and teaching and educational leadership, working throughout Nicaragua. She was educated at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua (UNAN)-Managua, where she studied history and pedagogy. Before becoming Executive Director of ATRAVES in 2004, she worked with Nicaraguan Catholic organizations, where she founded and directed over a dozen schools, taught primary and secondary school in a variety of subjects, helped with disaster relief efforts, and managed countless social service projects. She and Julio López met Brady Dunklee in 2002, and put him to work volunteering in San Juan de La Concepción, Masaya, where was completing a school-kitchen consturction project. She worked with Brady and Julio to found ATRAVES in 2004, enrolling many representatives from communities she had long connections with in the project. She has overseen the growth of ATRAVES from idea to reality, and continues to work tirelessly in service to the communities we support. Leticia lives in Managua.
Brady Dunklee, Executive Director, ATRAVES US
Brady Dunklee is a co-founder of ATRAVES, and Executive Director of ATRAVES U.S. Inc. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he graduated from Brown University in 2003, with a double concentration in biology, and a self-designed major in critical science studies, in which his focus was ideas of race and racial difference in human genomic science. Brady first traveled to Nicaragua in 2002, where he met ATRAVES co-founders Julio Lòpez and Leticia Rojas, who put him to work volunteering and living with a family in San Juan de La Concepciòn, Masaya. Brady worked with Julio and Leticia to found Asociaciòn TransAmericana de Voluntarios En Solidaridad in 2004, beginning from a vibrant group of people representing more than a dozen small schools and organizations in the Pacific Basin. He was named General Director of the association, with Leticia Rojas joining as Executive Director later the same year. After founding ATRAVES U.S. Inc., Brady transitioned to his current role as Executive Director. Brady has an extensive background in adult education, having held teaching and administrative positions in several ESOL and GED programs. He also has worked as a genetics and science studies researcher, and a seasonal longshoreman. He is based in Providence, Rhode Island US, and Managua, Nicaragua.
Patricia Mercedes Torres Guerrero, Program Assistant, ATRAVES Nicaragua
Patricia is a highly experienced educator, having served as an official with the Ministry of Education, and in a variety of teaching positions. Patricia is a long-time advisor and friend of ATRAVES, and is concurrently a sixth grade instructor at Escuela H.D. in Managua. She joined our staff in mid-2008.
Fernando Sobalvarro Cruz, Coordinator, ATRAVES Nicaragua
Fernando has worked with ATRAVES for over two years, beginning as a volunteer, and continuing on to become a vital member of our staff. Fernando is from Managua, where he still lives. He is a student at the Universidad de Nicaragua (UNICA), where he studies economics and law.
Flor de María Altamirano, Office Manager, ATRAVES Nicaragua
Flor de María is an accountant by training, and has extensive experience in office management. She joined our staff as office manager in 2008, and lives in Managua.
